Sarah Palin: The Mullet Years as a Sportscaster

Looking back at the 70s and 80s (and even 90s) there are certain fashion trends that should never have happened. Here is one of those cases -- as the possible Vice President of the United States, Sarah Palin presents herself conservatively both in action and appearance.

While attempting to do the same thing, the "big hair days" got the best of her (and the rest of us) to yield some pretty humorous photos and videos. At the time, it probably seemed like a good idea.

Hey, Sarah—Organize This!

It is possible that Sarah Palin really knows the difference between being a small-town mayor and a community organizer. But it's unlikely—because she has more in common with community organizers than she realizes.

Just to be clear: I like organizers—if they sign onto the right causes. The best ones are clergy and the religious, who seem to be able to live out their roles as uniters and dividers more comfortably than the rest of us. My heroes are organizers like the Rev. John J. Egan, who worked on behalf of the poor in Chicago and could mingle with the mayors and governors but knew how to take it to the streets. Yes, I like insiders who are outsiders, or vice versa.

But very few can pull this off. Insiders should be insiders and hold things together. Outsiders, at times, have to pull us apart. And a country is in trouble if we can't keep these roles straight.

Palin's Speech Raises $1M for GOP, $8M for Obama

In a reversal of expectations, Sarah Palin's speech was a major victory... for both sides. For the Republicans, it acted as validation that John McCain picked a Vice-President who could hold her own speaking on a national stage.

For the Democrats, it was a rallying call... "Guys, it's not in the bag, so send more money!"

Sarah Palin’s speech to the convention Wednesday night energized conservatives and inspired excited Republicans to donate a cool $1 million to the RNC's effort to elect John McCain. Bloomberg reported that Palin’s speech was even better for Democrats who got over $8 million in donations since Wednesday!

Palin Disparages Environmentalist ‘Fear Mongering’ Yet...

... she warns of a ‘World of Hurt’ if we don't drill.“

Our nation is at a crossroads also. We'd either better be making decisions to allow this American supply of energy to be tapped or we're going to become more and more beholden to these foreign regimes."

There are many reasons that drilling and future energy concerns should come together and coexist. This is an example of narrow mindedness that is perpetuated by both sides in Washington.

Here is the video on CNBC.

Palin Slashed Funding for Teen Moms

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee who revealed Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, earlier this year used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.

After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation -- "SP" -- Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million. Covenant House is a mix of programs and shelters for troubled youths, including Passage House, which is a transitional home for teenage mothers.

According to Passage House's web site, its purpose is to provide "young mothers a place to live with their babies for up to eighteen months while they gain the necessary skills and resources to change their lives" and help teen moms "become productive, successful, independent adults who create and provide a stable environment for themselves and their families."

Palin's own daughter, Bristol, is five months pregnant and has plans to wed.

Bristol Palin, Pregnant

The question now is, "How much did McCain know?"

Depending on the answer to that question, one of two questions come to mind:

"If he knew, what does he have up his sleave?"

"If he didn't know, how does he recover?"

Could this really be a clever political move, or were they blindsided? The only possible "clever" move that I can think of is to use it as a rallying call for "stick to the issues" instead of focusing on personal attacks. Otherwise, she had better bring a ton to the table to overcome this.

Reuters: "The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.
